Dr. Ronald Surdin,
Optometrist, graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1973 with a Doctorate of Optometry and Bachelors of Science in Visual Science. He did post graduate studies at Johns Hopkins University with a Masters degree in Communicative Disorders to better understand individuals with reading and learning issues. He is a member in good standing in the Maryland Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. He is certified to co-manage cataract surgery and laser vision correction. He is part owner and has practiced at the Optical Solution for over thirty years. He is married and has two children; a musician and a C.I.A. chef.
Joseph L. Jacobson, "Maestro" with Honor from Italy
There are only 28 "Maestro Ottico", or master opticians, in the United States. Joe Jacobson of Optical Solution is one of them. In Florence, Italy, Jacobson was bestowed the master optician prize by the Italian opticians. It was the first time the Italians recognized Americans and for Jacobson, it reflects his dedication to a career that spans nearly 30 years. We're independent, not a chain, that's why we're here so long, said Jacobson of his Reisterstown shop, The Optical Solution. An independent treats you special. We don't just want you, but your husband and family, so we give lots of personal service. As an optician, Jacobson is trained to measure people for glasses, interpret prescriptions, fabricate glasses and work with contact lenses. He received his education from the Optical Department at Wilmer Eye Clinic of Johns Hopkins Hospital and was certified by the American Board of Opticianry, though opticians are not required to be certified in the state of Maryland. "It was a huge honor", said Jacobson, who received a letter saying he had been accepted. "I was thrilled. I knew it would be exciting." "I like to see what is selling and what's coming," Jacobson said. "I've looked at glasses and what lens designs are used and what's hot." All of the lenses Jacobson offers at his Reisterstown shop and at his Westminster location are made in-house.
Darlene Green,
is the manager of our Westminster location. She started with us as an apprentice optician just over twenty years ago. Her skills, warmth and community involvement are traits that we know will endear her to you.
Nadine Bowen,
has been working in our Reisterstown store for over eighteen years. She is a lab technician/optician whose skills and dedication are second to none. Her background as an artist is evident in everything that she does for our patients.
Lil Bunda,
has worked in both Reisterstown and Westminster for approximately fifteen years. Her skills as an optician and her genuine caring for others make her the special person she is.
